A Touch Of Winter Before A Dry Week

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Temperatures bottomed out in the teens in areas north of DFW Airport (Denton and McKinney) on Monday morning. But with plenty of sunshine in the day's forecast, we should get into the low 50s, with some clouds sticking around in the southeast corner of North Texas, from Corsicana to Athens to Tyler.

There might even be a little light rain in that southeast corner. This is from a strong Gulf low that is bringing heavy storms to Houston on Monday afternoon and night. The majority of North Texas will miss this system entirely.

But there could be a little touch of winter, as a quick-moving low pressure system is going to swing through North Texas on Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Clouds will come in on Monday night with minor snow – about an inch -- in Abilene. Some of this snow could reach Brownwood to Throckmorton to Wichita Falls on Monday night and into Tuesday morning.

The high temperatures on Tuesday will only reach into the upper 40s, with a brisk north wind to remind us all that it is still very much winter.

But that is about all the excitement that is coming. Look for the rest of the work week to be dry. Wednesday temperatures will be in the mid-50s. Thursday will be in the low 50s. Friday will be in the low 60s.  Partly sunny skies can be expected every day with morning lows mainly in the 30s except for Saturday morning where we will be in the 40s.

A strong cold front will hit North Texas just in time for the weekend. There could be a small chance for light snow on Saturday night. There is a little uncertainty as to when the cold front will arrive as the models have differed on the timing.  Sunday will be cooler with highs in the upper 50s.  Monday will see highs in the mid 50s.  There will be some rain chances on Sunday and maybe even Monday, but again that is dependent on the timing of the front.
