Matt Finkel

Matt Finkel is a sports reporter and anchor for CBS News Detroit, and he is thrilled to be covering the teams in the Motor City. His passion for sports started at a young age and he brings more than a decade of experience as a sports reporter, anchor, and producer to Michigan. Matt seeks to tell unique and interesting sports-related stories, and he is excited to match the passion Detroit sports fans feel for their teams year-round. Before moving to Detroit, Matt spent 6 years working as a sports reporter and anchor in Hartford at NBC Connecticut, covering three basketball national championships for the UConn Huskies. Prior to Connecticut, he worked in Hagerstown, Maryland and covered the Capitals' Stanley Cup championship along with the MLB All-Star game in Washington, D.C. Matt's first on-air position was in Lima, Ohio. Before moving in front of the camera, he worked as a broadcast associate and producer at MLB Network for two years right out of college. Matt graduated from Syracuse University in 2011 with a dual degree in broadcast journalism and finance at the Newhouse School of Communications and Whitman School of Management. Matt is a 2-time Emmy winner, and he was named the Connecticut Sportscaster of the Year in 2022. His work has been recognized with 3 Telly Awards, a dozen Society of Professional Journalism honors and a Connecticut Broadcasters Association award. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing guitar, golfing and attending concerts.
