Democrats will hold 2020's first presidential debate Tuesday night in Iowa with less than three weeks left until voters make their picks in the state's caucuses. The latest polls in the state show a close race between Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg. Trump lawyers prep impeachment witness list

After first demanding an "immediate trial," President Trump is now calling for the articles of impeachment to be dismissed. Two senior administration officials say they do not believe extra witnesses should be called in the Senate trial, but the White House believes there will likely be enough Republican defectors to pass a vote to hear from more people. Weijia Jiang reports that Mr. Trump's lawyers are prepared with their own list of witnesses should that happen.

South Carolina official switches endorsement

Dalhi Myers, a South Carolina elected official who endorsed Joe Biden last month, is now backing Senator Bernie Sanders in the state's first-in-the-South presidential primary. The vice chair for Richland County's 10th district, tells the Associated Press she now feels the former vice president is "a compromise choice." Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden are the current frontrunners in Iowa, according to recent polls, with Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg trailing closely behind.
