"We are grateful to God for the safety of Sr Suellen," the Archbishop of New Orleans said in a Facebook post.
Sister Suellen Tennyson had been working in the nation since 2014, her diocese said.
The explosion was believed to have been caused by chemicals used to treat gold that were stocked at the site.
