Ex-girlfriend of accused Davis serial stabber Carlos Dominguez back on witness stand
DAVIS — The ex-girlfriend of accused Davis serial stabber Carlos Dominguez was back on the witness stand for a second day of testimony Tuesday.
The defense is continuing to show the dramatic changes Dominguez went through from his freshman to sophomore year at UC Davis.
On Monday, ex-girlfriend Caley Gallardo admitted that Dominguez was hearing voices. When she was called back to the witness stand Tuesday, she talked about how, at times, she would have to calm Dominguez down in public.
Gallardo explained that she didn't think anyone knew Dominguez better than she did, and when he became distant, his family reached out asking if she had talked to him.
After the murders, she described being shocked when she found out he was arrested and accused of the 2023 violent stabbing spree that killed two people and injured another person. She said she even asked her parents to come and get her because the situation was so difficult.
"He was my boyfriend. We had dated for two years. At that point in time, I was in love with him," she said. "To find that someone I had loved had done something like that was very difficult."
Gallardo said that during their relationship, she believed she saw Dominguez with a knife.
The defense team first called Gallardo to take the stand on Monday, a day that also saw Dominguez's father and younger sister being called to the stand by the defense to begin the third week of the trial.
More friends of Dominguez were called to the stand to talk about his behavior in those months leading up to the stabbing spree.
Testimony will continue Wednesday morning.
Dominguez has pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity.
