Women Found Guilty, Fined For Abandoning Dying Puppy On North Side

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Three women were found guilty of ill treatment of a dog Thursday regarding an animal cruelty case from September.

In September, two women were seen on surveillance footage abandoning an injured dog on a dumpster at the 7/11 on Western Avenue. The dog was humanely euthanized at the Western PA Humane Society (WPHS) when a veterinarian determined that the dog could not survive its injuries.

The two women were eventually found, and they were charged in October. A third woman, the owner of the dog, was also charged.

Rikia Abdullah and Arielle Abdullah, who were seen on surveillance footage, failed to appear in court Thursday. They were both found guilty of abandonment and ill treatment of the dog. The maximum fine for each count was $750.

The dog's owner, Troilynia Hicks, was found guilty of ill treatment and fined $150.

"Cases like these exemplify why it is so important to support the work of the Western PA Humane Society, where we can care for pets in need and investigate animal abuse cases," said WPHS executive director Joy Braunstein in a press release. "We were able to provide emergency care and a person to support this poor dog in her final hours."
