Woman accused of beating 11-year-old girl outside Clairton Elementary School during drop-off
A woman is accused of beating an 11-year-old girl outside Clairton Elementary School.
Shortly before 8 a.m. on April 1, Clairton police said they were called to the elementary school on Waddell Avenue after a parent allegedly assaulted a student during drop-off.
While speaking with the person who called 911, police said they saw the 11-year-old victim had multiple injuries to her face. Her parents were called to the school.
Police said surveillance footage showed 40-year-old Jasmine Snow approach the 11-year-old girl and hit her in the face. Investigators said Snow then grabbed the girl and hit her several times before the witness tried and failed to intervene. The girl fell to the ground and police said Snow dragged her, continuing to hit her.
When school security arrived, police said officers restrained Snow, but she eventually walked away and drove off.
Victim's father says his daughter has been bullied
William Spencer, the girl's father, is seeking justice. He says his daughter has been bullied and harassed by children in the school and now allegedly assaulted by one of the parents.
"She was sitting in front of the school and my daughter comes in, didn't even make it into the school. She got punched, stomped down to the ground," Spencer said.
"For a parent my age or a year older than me to jump on a child? That is ridiculous," he said.
Spencer says the conflict started with weeks of bullying from Snow's 7-year-old son — something he says the district was aware of and failed to stop.
"The whole month of March, a bunch of bullying on FaceTime chat," he said.
"They said they were putting her in a safety plan to keep my daughter safe," he added.
Clairton City School District said they are fully cooperating with police, they are saddened by the violence and safety is a top priority.
Spencer says his daughter is now being home schooled out of fear and frustration.
"The lack of security at that school and my daughter being jumped on — they say they're keeping the kids safe. How y'all keeping them safe when that happened to my daughter? She didn't even make it inside the doors," Spencer said.
Snow is facing several charges, including simple assault, harassment, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.
Spencer's daughter said she's feeling fine but is suffering from headaches and blurred vision.
