UPS Brings Holiday Jobs To Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- From Thanksgiving through Christmas, UPS is planning to add a few good men and women to fill 50,000 temporary jobs.
Four-hundred of those jobs will be filled in the Pittsburgh area.
"And some of the positions we're looking to hire for are package handlers and driver helper positions," said David Zimmerman, who oversees Human Resources for UPS in Western Pennsylvania.
With some of the driver helpers, UPS will try to coordinate meeting up with the driver en route.
"It could be a shopping center, or a parking lot, as close as possible to the driver's route and as close as possible to where the employee lives."
Punctuality and good customer service are main qualifications. Temporary workers can expect to start at $8.50 an hour as handlers and driver helpers will receive $9 an hour and up.
Permanent positions after the holidays are also a possibility.
"Positions that include benefits - positions that include, in many cases, tuition reimbursement."
But who pays for those iconic brown uniforms?
"Our driver helpers and our drivers - everybody you see out on the street - we provide the uniforms to those folks."
Any potential applicants should go to the UPS website at www.upsjobs.com. Select the job in which you are interested and type in your zip code to contact the appropriate hiring area.
