Sunday Spotlight: The Vietnam Agent Orange Veterans Project
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- When hundreds of Vietnam veterans returned home from war, Hugh Coryea says they didn't get the welcome they deserved.
So, now he's trying to honor and help those veterans through the Vietnam Agent Orange Veterans Project.
The New Castle organization recognized Vietnam veterans, specifically those suffering from complications of Agent Orange.
It's a tactical herbicide used to clear leaves and vegetation in the Vietnam War. Many veterans who were exposed are experiencing illnesses such as cancer, hypothyroidism, and parkinsonism.
Coryea says the organization will refer veterans who are eligible for disability compensation, while also recognizing those who died from complications by hanging their dog tags on a tree.
They also help veterans who are homeless and hungry.
The organization donates boxes of food and are in the process of partnering with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to reach more veterans.
They also donate coats that turn into sleeping bags for veterans who are living on the street.

The organization also has a fundraiser on Saturday, November 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Gallo's Italian Villa in New Castle.
