Pittsburgh Public Safety said the shooting happened at Penn Avenue and Ninth Street in the Cultural District around 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

A man and a woman were shot, authorities said. The woman was shot in the leg, while the man was shot once each in the arm and leg. They were both last listed in stable condition.

Authorities said they are looking for at least one male suspect, and while they said there's no danger to the public, information about the alleged suspect is limited. Two other people were transported to headquarters for questioning, Pittsburgh Public Safety said.

Witnesses told KDKA they heard three gunshots and saw three people running away, including a man who had been shot. They ended up inside The Eagle, a restaurant on Penn Avenue.

"It's devastating. You don't want to see anybody be harmed," said Nicole Rieder, who works on Penn Avenue.

Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Lee Schmidt was at the scene talking with officers. Penn Avenue was closed as police investigated.

"No one wants to see violence of any kind in our neighborhoods, especially acts that put lives at risk," Mayor Ed Gainey said, in part, in a statement. "Let me be clear: there is no place for this kind of behavior in our city."

Gainey also thanked first responders, "whose swift and professional actions helped ensure lives were saved and the situation was quickly brought under control."
