PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A retired Pittsburgh Police officer has been arrested and is accused of shooting their teenage grandson during an argument in the city's Stanton Heights neighborhood.

Early Tuesday morning, officers were called to investigate after a 16-year-old boy was dropped off at a local hospital having been shot in the leg.

Police say the boy was left there by a female family member, later identified as 63-year-old Virginia Beck, before officers arrived to investigate.

A Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson confirmed to KDKA that Beck is a retired officer with the city.

Police say they learned through their investigation that Beck and her grandson got into an argument at a home in the city's Stanton Heights neighborhood when she shot him in the leg. The boy is expected to survive.

Bail for Beck was denied and she is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this month.
