POINT BREEZE (KDKA) – Police are investigating an apparent shootout between occupants of two vehicles in Point Breeze.
According to police, the incident happened in the 7500 block of Penn Avenue around 1:15 p.m., near the Exxon station
Syeda Ani, a witness: "I didn't see anything, because I just listened. Gunshots."
KDKA's Paul Martino: "What did you hear?"
Ani: "Eight or six gunshots."
Occupants of a Jeep and a Dodge Charger began shooting at each other. As a result, the windows of a female bystander's vehicle were shot out. The female bystander was injured by broken glass.
Ani, a woman from Pakistan, was working in the nearby gas station kiosk when the bullets rang out.
Ani: "I was sitting on my chair, then I heard... I just come over there and sit down."
Martino: "You got down on the floor?"
Ani: "Yeah, because I thought maybe they are shooting on my kiosk."
While fleeing the scene, at least one of the vehicles struck a Rostraver-West Newton ambulance. The ambulance, disabled by the impact, was transporting a patient to hospice.
A second ambulance was called to the scene.
"I don't know what happened and why they shooting with each other, but I was afraid for these things," said Ani.
By late afternoon, folks were back, filling up at the Exxon, but more cautiously.
Martino: "Do you feel safe coming back here?"
William Kalson, a customer: "Yeah. I think so, but that's just this area I guess, you know? You just have to be careful."
Police continue to search for the gunmen.
