Two people stabbed along East Carson Street on Pittsburgh's South Side
Two people were wounded and one person has been arrested following a late-night stabbing along East Carson Street on Pittsburgh's South Side.
Pittsburgh Public Safety said the suspect was arrested in connection with the stabbing that happened around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday along East Carson Street.
Both people were stabbed in the chest area, according to Public Safety officials. One of the people was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The other was said to be in stable condition.
Public Safety officials said that charges will be filed against the suspect. It's unclear at this time what led up to the stabbing.
The part of East Carson Street where the stabbing occurred has recently brought law enforcement to the area for other violent incidents. Police cruisers and flashing lights on East Carson Street are becoming an increasingly common sight.
Last month, a 33-year-old man died after being shot in the neck late on a Sunday night. One week prior, a 26-year-old woman died after being shot at the Bonez Barbershop on a Saturday afternoon.
"It's ridiculous," said Don Michaels.
"Something has to be done; it can't just keep on. Come on," Michael Philias said. "Businesses are closing. This isn't the South Side I grew up in. Look, it's dead."
"It's not a safe environment, that's how I feel about it. I mean, they were supposed to do the checkpoints," Philias said.
Checkpoints were supposed to be instituted in July; it has yet to be put into practice. Councilman Bob Charland, who represents this district, said we can expect an update on the checkpoints next year.
Nominated Police Chief Jason Lando, at a news conference last week, addressed Downtown and this area.
"I've spoken with residents, police officers over the summer, just asking questions," Lando added. "Those are the two areas that have come up; those will be our priority."
