Pirates' Minor Leaguer Suspended 50 Games

NEW YORK (KDKA/AP) — Major League Baseball and the commissioner's office announced Monday the suspension of a minor league pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Arquimedes Lorenzo was suspended for 50 games in violation of the minor league drug program. He is currently playing in the Dominican Summer League.

The suspension will begin next season.

The 19-year-old had a 6.56 ERA, and 2-4 record in 13 games in 2010. He pitched a total of 48 innings and recorded 26 strikeout and 35 walks.

There have been 86 players suspended this year under the minor league drug program and two under the major league program.
