High winds wreak havoc on North Huntingdon
North Huntingdon residents were cleaning up on Wednesday after a tornado warning overnight, but after surveying the area, the National Weather Service determined it was hit with high winds.
In North Huntingdon, the damage is widespread, with sheds torn apart, debris scattered like confetti. On the Nemeth's property, part of their pine tree ripped from the trunk. It missed their home by a few feet but their truck and brand-new trailer by just a few inches.
"I guess my reaction was, 'we probably should have taken shelter in the basement,' because if it would of hit the house, it could have been a lot worse."
On the Nemeth's property, tree limbs aren't the only things you see. Shed parts and patio furniture are all from the properties on the other side of the ravine.
"We heard this really big loud noise almost like a engine grinding. We looked out the window and we saw that."
The shed flipped onto its side, landing on the fence and breaking it.
Jennifer Mahaffey said she's still in shock. While her shed is in tack, her neighbor's right next door was blown to pieces.
"It's kind of hard to come to grasp when something changes this big, but we're all safe, my pets are safe, all the neighbors are safe, so that's all that matters."
