Man Leads Police On High-Speed Chase On Dirt Bike In Marshall-Shadeland

MARSHALL-SHADELAND (KDKA) - A South Side man is facing a long list of charges after leading police on a high-speed chase on a dirt bike.

Officers observed a dirt bike being driven in the 2500-block of Stayton Street without a registration. According to police, this has been a problem in the Zone 1 area.

The officers tried to pull over 30-year-old Jeffrey Guyton, but he sped away from the scene. According to the criminal complaint, Guyton drove above the speed limit, ran through stop signs and narrowly missed hitting other vehicles. He also drove on the sidewalk to get around a police car and drove through several back yards.

"It was actually dangerous the way he was speeding around. I mean, he wasn't being careful. I'm glad he wasn't' hit. I'm glad he didn't hit anyone else," a witness said.

Eventually, Guyton wiped out on the sidewalk and a police officer tackled him to the ground.

Guyton was able to break away from the officer, hopped back on the dirt bike and nearly ran the officer over in the process. The officer suffered a minor wrist injury.

Police say Guyton was pursued by several other police units, and lost control of his bike on Tupela Way. Guyton continued to resist arrest, and two officers had to use force to take him into custody.

Officers found two stamp bags of heroin in Guyton's pocket. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries he suffered in the crash, as well as to receive a heroin antidote drug.

Guyton has been charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving.
