Firefighters battle 4-alarm fire in Lawrenceville
Firefighters battled what became a four-alarm fire in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood on Saturday.
Fire crews were alerted to a single-structure commercial building fire along 51st Street in Central Lawrenceville just after 10 a.m.
The fire "expanded rapidly" throughout the property, where a linen laundering business was operated, according to a news release from Pittsburgh Public Safety.
Despite a sprinkler system activation, the fire spread further, including running up into the roof.
A second alarm was called at approximately 10:20 a.m., a third alarm was called at 10:36 a.m., then the fourth and final alarm rang just before 11:15 a.m., the news release added.
The fire was deemed under control at 12:24 p.m. while firefighters continued to extinguish smaller, smoldering hot spots.
One firefighter sustained a minor non-burn injury to his knee. While initially treated at the scene, he was transported to an area hospital in stable condition for evaluation.
No other injuries were reported.
Crews will continue to monitor the property over "the next several hours" to prevent any rekindling.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
