Jeep Slams Into House, Catches Moon Township Home On Fire

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- Police are amazed that a "freak accident" in Moon Township resulted in no injuries.

Officers say a vehicle crashed into a house on Scottsdale Drive around 11:00 p.m.

After the crash, the car burst into flames, catching the house on fire.

"It was a big fire, it was well over the roof," said neighbor Karl Hunter.

By morning light, the devastation is crystal clear.

The side of the house at 227 Scottsdale Drive is charred with a gaping hole on the side, an equally burned-out Jeep Wrangler sitting in the yard.

Police say the woman had her car parked and her lights on while she was spraying a hornets nest in a tree in her hard.

She lost control of her Jeep Wrangler while attempting to enter it. The vehicle apparently slipped out of gear and rolled across the street hitting a gas meter then plowing into the house.

Neighbors say they could hear her screaming and saw her chasing the vehicle.

When the Jeep hit the gas meter, it caught fire, and when it rolled inside the house, it too began to burn.

Peoples Gas was called to shut off the gas for firefighters to extinguish the flames.

The homeowner was not home at the time of the crash.

Police say they can't believe no one was injured or killed.

Moon Township Police Chief Greg Seaman says no charges will be filed here -- it was just an accident.
