State police investigating deadly shooting in Washington County
A 19-year-old is dead after an early morning shooting in Washington County on Sunday.
According to information provided to KDKA-TV from the Washington County Office of the Coroner, 19-year-old Devyon Dennis was shot inside a home on Broadmore Drive in Canton Township.
Just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, Washington County 911 was called about the incident. Once first responders arrived, they found Dennis had been shot inside his girlfriend's home in the Washington Estates mobile home park.
Dennis was pronounced dead at the scene.
He faced homicide and gun charges in 2020 in Uniontown. However, the Observer-Reporter reported that those charges were dismissed by a judge because there was not enough evidence.
His girlfriend had only moved into the home a few months prior, neighbors said.
Neighbor Ron Lyle said he saw a large number of people enter and exit the home the day before the shooting, including children, but assumed they were all family.
The shooting is being investigated as a homicide by Pennsylvania State Police.
Multiple neighbors KDKA-TV spoke with said they did not hear any gunshots, even if they lived directly next door.
"There was nothing. We did not hear gunshots. We didn't hear sirens, nothing," said Melissa Sasso. "That's so sad. I didn't know this guy, but it's horrible that it happened on Easter, because this is the Lord's day, you know."
"You know, that's not the first time something happened in that trailer," Lyle said.
An individual who used to live in the trailer was shot in March of last year, just down the street, he said.
"That trailer's jinxed, man," Lyle said.
KDKA-TV can confirm that the shooting took place, but not where the person lived.
