Bret Michaels taking break from touring to recover from recent surgeries

Rocker and Pittsburgh-area native Bret Michaels is taking a break from touring to recover from recent surgeries. 

According to a statement posted to Facebook on Saturday, after Michaels' comeback show at The Bowl at Sugar Hill, doctors and paramedics determined that he still needs to rest and recover after his recent surgeries. 

"We will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being. He wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels," his doctors, Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, said in a statement. 

Michaels said in a social media post on Sunday that he hadn't factored in the heat or the effect that a coast-to-coast flight would have on his blood sugar and blood pressure levels. 

"You've gotta know that my energy and my soul really want to play music," Michaels wrote. "Hopefully, I will get this figured out much sooner than later. If I could, I would be back out there tomorrow. Sincere love to all…stand strong, rock on and remain Unbroken!"

Michaels had surgery to remove a kidney stone in July after he said he played through "intense pain" at a show at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington. His doctors then ordered him to take three to four weeks to recuperate, saying his shows are too physically strenuous and his recovery is complicated by his lifelong type 1 diabetes. 

Michaels is a Butler native and was last in the Steel City to perform with other Pittsburghers like Wiz Khalifa and KELS during the NFL draft.
