Established in 1934, the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh originally performed only the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Under the leadership of artistic director Thomas Douglas, the Bach-only choir has since evolved into a choir that performs works from a variety of genres and time periods with much acclaim from critics. With 100 singers, the choir has a three-concert season in 2013-2014 and performs each concert multiple times throughout the area. The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, established in 1905, is the oldest continuously running choir in Pittsburgh, backed by the powerful music of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. With so many performances during its season and annual favorites that come back each year, The Mendelssohn Choir has concerts that appeal to a variety of musical tastes. The Holiday Pops show is one of the most popular shows and is a great way to be introduced to what this choir has to offer. The Pittsburgh Gospel Choir

The Pittsburgh Gospel Choir was established in 2007 to perform American gospel music for the Pittsburgh area. A multi-ethnic choir, the choir strives to connect with the community to foster an increased appreciation for not only gospel music but also African-American sacred music. The choir has a full schedule of performances around the area from now until May 2014 and tickets to each show are just $10. Heinz Chapel Choir

Head to Heinz Chapel in Oakland to hear the University of Pittsburgh's a cappella student choir. This group performs at Heinz Chapel and various churches throughout the area. Internationally recognized for its excellence, the Heinz Chapel Choir has a very busy performance schedule. Get in the holiday spirit by attending one of the multiple performances of this choir's holiday show. Instead of going and seeing a choir performance, get a young girl in your family involved in choral music. The Oakland Girls Choir is a product of the Pittsburgh School for the Choral Arts and gets young girls involved in musical education at an early age. This choir program strives to introduce girls of all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds to the powerful influence of music. Since its inception in 2011, the Pittsburgh School for the Choral Arts has also introduced early childhood education classes. This organization holds auditions regularly for girls who want to join the choir and also has a full schedule of concerts performed mostly around the east end of the city.
