Suspect In North Philadelphia Check Cashing Store Homicide Surrenders

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The man suspected of shooting and killing the owner of a check cashing store in North Philadelphia last weekend surrendered Thursday evening, according to authorities.

Police say 31-year-old Eric Locke turned himself in around 8 p.m., not long after police made public he was the alleged culprit.

Locke, according to authorities, shot 53-year-old Joel Blumer twice in the neck just after he opened up the B & R Check Cashing store at 26th and Sterner streets on Saturday. Blumer, a husband and father of two children, was taken to Temple Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities say an undisclosed amount of money was taken from the store, leading police to believe robbery was the motive.
