Showers Return To The Forecast; Cloud Threat Impacts Chance To View Meteor Shower

By Justin Drabick

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After a cold start to the day with a morning low of 39 in Philadelphia and around freezing in many suburbs, temperatures rebounded nicely to near average into the low to mid 60s.  Clouds will be on the increase tonight ahead of the next storm system.  The clouds will keep temperatures milder tonight with a low around 50 degrees.

Unfortunately the threat for clouds tonight will impact the chance to view a meteor shower taking place. The annual Orionid meteor shower will peak on Tuesday. This year's shower coincides with a new moon, allowing for even more ideal viewing conditions with no moonlight to obstruct viewing.  The best time to look will be before sunrise and looking east. Up to 25 meteors per hour are possible Tuesday morning.

Shower chances return later in the day on Tuesday as the storm approaches.  It will be mild with high temperatures above average in the mid to upper 60s.  The storm will then slow down off the coast as a keeping the chance for off and on showers through the day on Wednesday and into Thursday.  Rainfall amounts of .25 -.50" are possible through Thursday with the wettest day on Wednesday.  Temperatures will be much cooler on Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the 50s to near 60 degrees.  The storm will then begin to head up the New England coast later on Thursday with sunshine returns and breezy conditions for Friday.
