Abduction Leads To SUV Crash, Police Pursuit In North Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A domestic dispute turned police pursuit overnight.

Authorities say it began with a man abducting two people in West Philly, freeing them, and then, forcing his ex-girlfriend into his SUV.

This began around 3:30 a.m. with police responding to the abduction near Girard College. Police say a woman was taken by a man who drove off in a black SUV, then crashed on College Avenue after driving for just a few blocks.

The SUV was found piled on top of a Mercedes.

Police say the driver then took off on foot and police found him hiding under a truck at 26th and Girard. The 44-year-old man -- said to be the abducted woman's ex boyfriend -- was taken into custody.

After sunrise Friday, detectives collected clues, and took photos of the two-car crash. Clues, including a cell phone.

Police say, the SUV came to a crashing stop along a brick wall and clipping a Mercedes sedan belonging to Michael O'Connell.

"I got the car fixed, and now, look."

He says he had no idea his parked car was hit into until he headed out for work.

"Apparently, a was trying to evade police, and they caught up to him."

Sources say the woman's mother tried to stop the man from taking her, even firing her gun, but the man got away.

Police say the woman was taken to Hahnemann Hospital for treatment of assault-related injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
