Poll: Christie's Favorability In New Jersey At 35 Percent

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (CBS) Chris Christie's national poll numbers in his GOP Presidential quest have been consistently low for months. Now a new survey suggests New Jersey's Governor is slipping in his home state when it comes to his bid for the White House.
It appears not even the "favorite son" concept works for Christie in the latest Rutgers-Eagleton poll within the Garden State. He started at 36% among Republicans 10 months ago, atop the hypothetical list, then fell behind Donald Trump this summer.
Assistant poll director Ashley Koning suggests the latest numbers do not bode well for Christie.

"He's pretty much in the middle of the pack, coming in 6th in terms of mentions and tieing, if we want to talk about a three way virtual tie with Jeb Bush and Carly Fiorina, all the way down now at 5%," Koning told KYW Newsradio.
Across all parties, two thirds of respondents believe Christie should give up on the race entirely.
Why the poor performance? Koning says the poll shows Donald Trump's candidacy has taken a toll, along with Christie's absence from New Jersey on a day to day basis and general dissatisfaction with his performance in office.
On the Democratic side of the ledger, Hillary Clinton carries nearly half of New Jersey's vote, followed by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders at 19. Vice President Joe Biden, not yet a candidate, earns 10% support.
