Philadelphia Throws a Pep Rally For Its Hometown Little League World Series Team

By Steve Tawa

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As young players get their first taste of the Little League World Series, in Williamsport, Pa., Taney fever was running high in Philadelphia.

In the center of the City Hall courtyard, a pep rally and watch party was set up with four flat-screen TVs and monster speakers on stage facing -- what else? -- baseball bleachers.

DJ "Patty Pat," from the city's Department of Parks and Recreation, led a line dance in what is now known as the "Taney Dragon Shuffle."

For the locals, it's easy to cheer for Taney, the hodgepodge of 12- and 13-year-olds based at 17th and Fitzwater Streets in South Philadelphia.

----
Team fan Katie O'Gara and her fellow visitors were holding handmade "Go Taney" signs, including one that read, referring to Mo'ne Davis, the pitching powerhouse from South Philadelphia, "Mo'ne throws like a girl!"

To which O'Gara added, "I think that's awesome!"

Another neighbor who knows the players says one teammate calls Mo'ne "just one of the guys who happens to be a girl."
