Montgomery County Hires Firm To Rid Courthouse Of Mold

NORRISTOWN, Pa (CBS) -- Officials in Montgomery County are taking aggressive steps to get rid of some mold that was discovered in the courthouse in Norristown earlier this year.
The county has hired a firm to remediate the mold growth and to identify the source of the condition.
Five county judges had to be relocated in March after mold was found on the inside walls where their offices are located.
Commissioner Josh Shapiro says the problem was uncovered when the judges complained about the air quality on the plaza level of the courthouse and testing was done.
"In doing so they found actually that the air quality was excellent," Shapiro said. "But they did find the presence of some mold that is not a health risk, but is certainly something that we want to remediate."
He says they are doing all they can to make sure that county employees are working in a safe and healthy environment.
The cost of the work is expected to come in around 18-thousand dollars and take about five weeks to complete.
