Mike Purzycki Elected Mayor Of Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DEL (CBS) --  Mike Purzycki was elected the 56th mayor of the city of Wilmington.

Purzycki said it is an honor for him to serve the people of Wilmington.

"I am honored tonight to be elected as the next Mayor of the City of Wilmington. I thank everyone for their support and encouragement. I love this city, care deeply about its future, and I am humbled by the faith its residents have placed in me."

He said he would work to build unity in the country.

"I have already begun to reach out to citizens throughout Wilmington to seek their trust and support as we move forward with an ambitious agenda. Every day we will make City government more efficient in the delivery of programs and services, more responsive to citizens needs and stronger and smarter when it comes to managing your tax dollars. We will make our City and our neighborhoods stronger by creating jobs, reducing crime and blight and advocating for a better education system for our children."
