Police Open Fire In North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police opened fire Monday morning in North Philadelphia.

It happened around 6 a.m. along the 1500 block of Lehigh Avenue.

"Two shots (were) fired by police," said Police Captain Drew Techner. "That's under investigation. (There were) no injuries to police or civilian personnel."

A 22-year-old man was taken into custody.

An eyewitness, Sarah Ezzamori, says she was sitting on her front porch when she saw SWAT move in to a house down the street.

"All of the sudden it was just 'bang, bang.'"

Even before today's police activity, residents say they have been on high alert.

Ezzamori says, "There have been break-ins here and across the street. Every little noise makes me jump."

Authorities say eight other people were inside the home at the time and they all got out safely.

Both the shooting and what led police to the house to begin with are under investigation.
