ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A man driving at a high speed was killed after he veered off the road and crashed into a car dealership in Allentown early Tuesday morning, police said.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. on Lehigh Street near Vultee Street. Police said the driver was heading north on Lehigh Street when he veered off the road.

Images from the scene showed multiple damaged vehicles and a flipped vehicle.

Staff at the dealership Tuesday were tasked with cleaning up the damage.

Jeremy Sabol, a sales manager at Bennett Toyota and Bennett Infiniti, said the car first struck a Wawa sign before hitting a lamppost, then going airborne in the Infiniti lot and eventually coming to a stop several hundred feet away at the Toyota dealership.

Dealership staff said the estimated damage to cars is about $1 million, and property damage will add more to that.

"I've been in the auto industry for 13 years, and I've never seen anything like this happen," Sabol said. The car was going so fast it was "just spraying metal shards" all over the lots, he said.

About 20 cars and the Infiniti building were damaged, according to the dealership.

"Just take time, everybody, and make sure that you're driving comfortably and safely," Sabol said. "We're a community, so always have your brother and sisters' back."
