Authorities ID Woman Found In Bottom Of Pond In Chester County

EAST COVENTRY Twp., Pa. (CBS) – Officials in Chester County have identified a body found tied to a cinder block in a creek in East Coventry on Monday.

The body is identified as 24-year-old Ryan Stevyn Benjamin.

"Ryan was a young woman who had her undergraduate degree from Juniata College and she was a pre-kindergarten teacher," says Chester County DA Tom Hogan.

Hogan says she is originally from upstate new York. Her last known address is on Porter's Mill Road, not far from where the body was found.

He says this is a very active investigation, and they're asking anyone who saw Benjamin over the weekend to get in touch with detectives:

"The person who dumped Ryan's body in the water tied to a cinder block knows exactly what they did and knows that police are closing in."

Hogan says every moment that person stays on the run makes it look that much worse.

There's no word on cause of death. She did not have water in her lungs so she was dead before she was put in the water.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call detectives immediately at 610-344-6866.
