Dramatic video shows high winds lifting an employee's car and throwing it into the front glass wall of a company called Castle Windows in a business park in Mount Laurel, near I-295.
Officials with the National Weather Service have not determined the strength of the cyclone, but say it touched down in Mullica Hill, just outside of Philadelphia.
A major cleanup was underway Wednesday in Morris County, where many trees came tumbling down during Tuesday night's storm.
The move comes after National Weather Service officials confirmed an EF-1 tornado hit Stanhope and Hopatcong, N.J.
The EF0 tornado started as a waterspout before climbing onshore at around 7:35 a.m. It moved across part of the island and then headed back into the water, officials said.
Tornadoes were also confirmed to have touched down in Ronkonkoma on Long Island and in New Canaan, Connecticut.
"It just sounded like a really loud train going through my house. It was crazy. It was frightening," resident Helen Johnson said.
Screams of panic were heard Wednesday evening as a possible tornado tore through buildings in Poughkeepsie.
