Thousands of travelers along the East Coast are facing flight delays Saturday due to technical issues at a Federal Aviation Administration center in Virginia, authorities said.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., Scandinavian Airlines 908, an Airbus A330, and ExpressJet 4226, an Embraer E145 aircraft, made contact while both aircraft were taxiing for departure, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
Congress approved a bill Friday allowing the U.S. Department of Transportation to shift about $250 million within the agency and put 15,000 air traffic controllers back on the job full-time.
The Federal Aviation Administration has suspended all employee furloughs, officially ending the flight delays that have plagued the nation all week.
The FAA announced all of its 47,000 employees, including 15,000 air traffic controllers, will be furloughed one day every two weeks through September.
About 50,000 FAA employees including 15,000 air traffic controllers are being forced to take a furlough day every other week until the end of September because of the cuts.
As of Thursday night, airlines have canceled more than 2,400 flights scheduled for Friday. Newark Liberty International Airport, John F. Kennedy Airport and LaGuardia Airport have more than a 1,000 cancellations.
By afternoon, there were no major problems on the roadways. Subway, bus and rail service also was normal.
The storm system is the same one that dumped snow and sleet on the nation's midsection and unleashed damaging tornadoes around the South.
