Yonkers Man Convicted Of Fatally Shooting Former Girlfriend, Leaving Baby

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New York bus driver has been convicted of killing a former girlfriend and leaving their 4-month-old daughter alone with the body for three days.

The Westchester County district attorney said 50-year-old Michael Saunders of Yonkers was found guilty Tuesday of murder, reckless endangerment and other crimes.

The jury found that he killed Sabrina Durrah in her White Plains apartment last March 21. Prosecutors said he had learned she was seeking child support for the baby and that Durrah was shot twice, including once in the back of the head.

Three days later, relatives found the body and the baby. The infant recovered from dehydration, police said.

The district attorney said surveillance footage showed Saunders wearing a mask as he left Durrah's building after the killing.

He could be sentenced to 32 years to life in prison.
