4-Alarm Fire Rips Through 2 Buildings In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork)-- Firefighters were battling flames in Yonkers Sunday afternoon after a fire broke out in multiple buildings.

The Yonkers fire chief said the flames started in the basement of a church on Herriot street and quickly spread to a home next store. A third building also received some fire and water damage as firefighters tried to contain the flames.

The fire department said Red Cross was on the scene and is currently helping to assist displaced families. Officials said five families, including 10 adults and seven children, were provided emergency assistance.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire. No one was injured.
