Yankees Reportedly Won't Win Darvish Sweepstakes; Announcement Tonight?

NEW YORK (WFAN) — The Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters will announce the winner of the Yu Darvish sweepstakes Tuesday morning, Japan time, the pitcher's agent tweeted on Monday.

If the time line is correct, the winning bid will be unveiled around 9 p.m. ET.

But sorry, Yankees fans. Darvish reportedly won't be headed to New York.

The Yankees' number will "not be high enough" to beat out the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers, whose bids are thought to be through the roof, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

A source told the paper the winning bid is "a ridiculous number," but wouldn't name an exact figure.

Darvish, 25, went 18-6 with a 1.44 ERA and 276 strikeouts last season in 232 innings pitched. The right-hander has a lifetime record in Japan of 93-38 with a 1.99 ERA.

The Ham Fighters have until Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET to accept the bid. The winning team, if accepted, will have 30 days to agree to a contract with Darvish.

Where will Darvish land? Sound off below...
