Woman's Body Washes Ashore At Gilgo Beach

BABYLON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police on Long Island are investigating the discovery of a woman's body that washed ashore at Gilgo Beach.

The location is not far from where 10 bodies have been found in recent years, but Suffolk County Police said the discovery of the woman's body on Monday night is unrelated to that investigation.

Beachgoers reported the body washed ashore from the ocean, police said.

An autopsy will try to determine a cause of death. The woman was not immediately identified.

In March, a New York City woman was reported missing near Gilgo Beach. Her abandoned car was found on the south side of Ocean Parkway.

Authorities won't comment on the ongoing investigation into the discovery of 10 bodies along a seven mile stretch of Ocean Parkway between December 2010 and April 2011.

Last year, investigators said it appeared that more than one killer was responsible.
