NEW YORK(CBSNewYork/AP) -- A woman is dead and a toddler has been hospitalized following separate incidents on Long Island.

Police are investigating the drowning death of a 55-year-old woman who was found dead at the bottom of a backyard pool following a party.

Suffolk County police say residents of a home on Polo Street in Dix Hills were cleaning up Sunday afternoon when they noticed a body in the deep end of a pool.

The residents called 911 and the victim, identified as Rajkumari Motwani, of Rego Park, was pulled out of the pool. Police say Motwani _ who was a guest at the Saturday night party _ was pronounced dead at the scene.

In Lawrence, police say a toddler has been hospitalized after falling into a swimming pool.

Nassau County police say the child was pulled from the water around noon Sunday. The child was taken by ambulance to St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway.

The 2-year-old was listed in serious condition on Sunday night.

Police are investigating the incident.
