6 firefighters injured battling Brooklyn restaurant fire, FDNY says

Crews battled a fire at a Brooklyn restaurant Saturday.

The FDNY says they received a call just before 5:30 p.m. reporting a fire at a building located on North Fifth Street between Bedford Avenue and Berry Street.

According to fire officials, the building contains three restaurants, and the fire extended through the space between the ceiling and the roof from one restaurant into the two adjoining restaurants.

FDNY officials say there was a smoke explosion at one point, along with a localized collapse on the roof. The blaze grew to four alarms with over 200 fire and EMS personnel responding, fire officials say.

Crews got the fire under control just after 8:30 p.m., the FDNY says.

Six firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment, officials say. No other injuries were reported.

Department of Buildings officials were on the scene to assess structural damage.
