Amateur Video Shows Scuffle Breaking Out During Justin Bieber's Visit To Macy's Herald Square

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Pop superstar Justin Bieber made an intense arrival in Midtown on Thursday, dropping by Macy's Herald Square to promote his new fragrance, "Someday."

Bieber jumped out of a car and into the legendary department store, before coming out another entrance to greet the crowd. When he did, a barricade apparently crashed to the ground creating a brief scuffle.

However, It seems some confusion led to the incident. Online reports said a plainclothes police officer tried to help quell an unruly crowd near the singer. Bieber apparently didn't know the man was an officer and went into a defensive posture. The NYPD then told 1010 WINS on Thursday night that a member of Bieber's own security team was issued a summons for disorderly conduct and released.

A representative for Bieber said that the whole episode was a "misunderstanding."  Apparently when police and Bieber's security team tried to take the teen star back into Macy's because of fan commotion, a man -- who police only later learned was a security guard -- blocked the doorway and refused to get out of the way.

Bieber was not injured.

A cameraman was also knocked to the ground and some girls fell ill, possibly because of feeling overheated. They were assisted by EMS at the scene.

Bieber is so popular there have been crowd control issues in the past, including an incident at Roosevelt Field Mall on Long Island. Bieber has said he rarely cancels events because he doesn't want to disappoint his fans, but that fan safety is his number one priority.

WCBS 880's Paul Murnane Reports: Bieber Mania Hits NYC

Many fans of Bieber had camped out Wednesday night in hopes of catching a glimpse of the star.

"He's so hot!" 14-year-old Ruthy Khalifa told CBS 2's Cindy Hsu when asked what her fascination is with the 17-year-old pop star. "And I love his songs they are so... I love them! I could be his one less lonely girl."

Dave Letterman joked about Bieber mania on the "Late Show" and the Canadian heart throb poked fun at himself with little known facts such as, "As hard as I try, I don't know how to not be adorable."

Meanwhile, President Barack Obama was in town on Thursday attending two fundraisers and a Broadway show.

The visits by Obama and Bieber to New York City on the same day may not have been coincidental.

Last month, 14-year-old Payton Wall -- the daughter of a 9/11 victim -- told President Obama that, more than anything, she wanted to meet teen heartthrob.

The President vowed to make it happen and now the question remains whether it will happen.  It's unclear whether the two will got together, but Bieber said he intended to keep his side of the president's promise.  It is not yet known whether Wall was able to meet Bieber.

The President attended a fundraiser on East 65th Street followed by an LGBT fundraiser at the Sheraton Hotel at Seventh Avenue and 53rd Street before going to see the Tony-nominated play "Sister Act."

This is the President's fourth trip to the Big Apple in recent months.
