NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner's "Carlos Danger" sexting sobriquet already has sparked a slew of jokes and even a name generator where users can come up with similar monikers for themselves.
Now, a bistro in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn has decided to honor Weiner's alias with a "dangerous" libation.
"We were messing around with cocktails. We had some mezcal laying around, so we designed a mescal cocktail. It's fruity, it's juicy, it's kind of dangerous," said Richard Murphy, manager of Buttermilk Channel at 524 Court St. in Brooklyn. "This whole thing went down and (bar owner) Doug was like, 'Let's call it the Carlos Danger.' And the name has stuck; it's been a hit," he said. "No offense to Anthony Weiner – I'm voting for him."
The "Carlos Danger" cocktail already has been a hit at Buttermilk Channel, Murphy said.
"People like it. They have a chuckle, and then they try it and realize it's a really good cocktail. So it's been going pretty well for us," he said.
The "Carlos Danger" is made with 2 ounce of mezcal, 1/2 ounce of grapefruit juice, 1/2 ounce of honey syrup, and 1/2 ounce of lime juice. It is shaken and served with grapefruit zest and a sugar rim, "and then we shoot a little bit of Campari on top to give it a little red effect," Murphy told WCBS 880.
"Carlos Danger" was the screen name Weiner used as he exchanged graphic messages with a young woman as late as July 2012 – a year after he resigned from Congress amid similar sexting scandals.
Weiner's polling numbers have dropped since the revelations last week. In the latest development on Sunday, Weiner's campaign manager, Danny Kedem, has decided to call it quits in the wake of the scandal.
