Upper East Side Librarian Puts On Display To Raise Awareness About Proposed Budget Cuts
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An Upper East Side librarian is putting on a display at the New York Public Library's Webster branch. Actually, she's putting herself on display.
Kristy Raffensberger spends about an hour every day inside of a glass case in an effort to raise awareness about a proposed $47 million budget cut that would affect the library.
She told 1010 WINS reporter Sonia Rincon on Friday that she was inspired by librarians from Georgia.
"They did a window display of people sitting in a chair reading banned books, for banned book week," she said.
New York Librarian Puts Herself On Display
Signs around the display direct New Yorkers to write letters to the city in support of the library.
Raffensberger told Rincon that some people are drawn in by the display, while others appear flustered and run away. So far the display has resulted in more than 500 letters being written to the city.
New Yorkers interested in helping Raffensberger's cause can send a letter to their council member or visit their local library branch.
