Turn Up The Heat, Turn Up The Volume: Searching For The Song Of The Summer

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Summer weather is finally here and speaker systems around the Tri-State area are heating up as the Electronic Dance Music craze maintains its grip on America.

With synth and disco influenced dance songs dominating the charts, many are wondering which artist will emerge with the Song of the Summer.

WCBS 880's Wayne Cabot spoke with Star Ledger Music Critic Tris McCall to gain some insight.

"I think the obvious answer is the Daft Punk song 'Get Lucky', which is kind of a disco throwback number that has gotten a big promotional push," McCall said.

Fans have been quick to point out that 'Get Lucky' appears to summon the sounds of Earth, Wind, and Fire; and that the disco sound has a somewhat ubiquitous presence on the French electronic duo's most recent album, Random Access Memories.

McCall cautioned that it will be far from a cake walk for Daft Punk. 'Clarity', the title track off of Zedd's debut album, harkens early 80's synth-pop, and is also a contender. McCall also told listeners not to sleep on electro-pop pair Icona Pop's, synth-laden hit, "I Love It".

When asked which song he would like to see climb to the top of the charts this summer, McCall told Cabot that he is partial to 'Closer' the first song from Canadian duo Tegan and Sara's latest album Heartthrob.
