ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump reiterated his call for the return of waterboarding and the use of other harsh interrogation techniques following the deadly terror attack at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport on Tuesday.
"You have to fight fire with fire," Trump told supporters during a rally in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
The pronouncement drew cheers and chants of "USA! USA!"
During the Republican primary, Trump frequently advocated the return of waterboarding and "much worse," declaring at one point that "torture works."
"We have to fight so viciously and violently because we're dealing with violent people," Trump said.
Following the attacks, Trump tweeted, "Yet another terrorist attack, this time in Turkey. Will the world ever realize what is going on? So sad."
He then added, "We must do everything possible to keep this horrible terrorism outside the United States."
Trump continued his harsh rhetoric as he approaches the general election campaign, even as his advisers work to make him more measured.
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said 36 were dead and Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said 147 were wounded in the attack.
Yildirim said three suicide bombers were responsible for the attack and all initial indications suggest the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was behind it.
