An excessive heat warning will take effect from noon Friday until 8 p.m. Sunday for parts of New Jersey. More watches and warnings may be issued for other parts of the Tri-State area.

If you're looking for some relief from the heat, there's some good news. New York City outdoor pools opened for the season Thursday.

Last week, after three days of intense heat, dangerous storms moved through the area, bringing some welcome relief but also serious downpours and intense lightning. The storms created flash floods, brought down trees, and downed power lines in various spots.

According to AccuWeather, thunderstorms may come through the area this weekend.
