Indulge your inner Anglophile with a visit to either location of Brooklyn's famous Chip Shop, where you'll find racks of imported candy with prices that may make you gasp, but varieties you certainly won't find easily elsewhere such as HobNobs, Curly Wurlys and Aeros. More importantly, though, you'll find a menu full of English specialties such as the ubiquitous fish & chips, shepherd's pie, chip butties (not for those prone to heart disease), Welsh rarebit, and much, much more. Perhaps most importantly, though, is that they'll fry just about anything, including the candy bars you can buy from them.
Better yet: From March 21 - 31st, it's Dine In Brooklyn, and Chip Shop is one of a handful of places that are doing a 2-for-1 lunch deal: pay $20.11 for two people (or $10.05 for one; no, you won't be punished for being alone!), and choose 3 courses, 4 choices per course. Considering the shepherd's pie alone usually runs $12, you're practically robbing the place. Tack on a fizzy Ribena and be rewarded with the glorious taste of black currant, and remember to tip your servers extra kindly: not only are they serving you super discounted food, they have to work doubly hard to understand your thick American accent.

Perhaps you want something spicy to warm you up, given today's winter weather. Indulge in Wu Liang Ye's deliciousness with a special lunch menu that'll run you in $8.50+tax range with many dishes you'd see at any Chinese restaurant, plus some standouts. These include: Double cooked pork, a Szechuan specialty; shredded pork with spicy garlic sauce; or baby shrimp with Szechuan chili sauce, all of which come with a spring roll, choice of rice, and will leave you completely stuffed. Feeling adventurous? Move away from the lunch menu and order the Szechuan pork dumplings with roast chili vinaigrette, a fiery red chili oil that might make you think twice, but really isn't nearly as threatening as it looks (unless you drink it straight, which some have done). Add on the dan-dan noodles (pictured), chewy strands of noodles topped with minced pork and some of the same chili oil as the dumplings - make it twice as nice by dumpling excess oil from the dumplings onto the dan-dan noodles, and enjoy the burn of deliciousness.

As diners go, what can be said is: Manhattan has them. Skylight manages to stand out from the rest not just by its namesake building accessory - a skylight that brings in so much light as to almost be blinding some days, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere - but with its consistent delivery of excellent diner fare. Blueberry pancakes, tuna fish sandwiches (pictured), juicy burgers with your choice of toppings, perfectly fried chicken fingers, hot soup for a cold day and crisp salads for a warm day, Skylight does it all. Something for everyone, so take your fussy coworkers who only eat chicken fingers and French fries, and enjoy whatever you'd like there... but not the shrimp cocktail. Don't get the shrimp cocktail. Other than that, all's fair game, with plenty of options that eating your way through the entire menu will happily take months, if not years, of lunches. Take your time... they'll be there, waiting, as they have been since 1996. They'll deliver.
