Video Shows Thief Stuffing Tiny Pomeranian Down His Pants At Elmont Pet Store

ELMONT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A pint-sized pooch was stolen from a Long Island pet store, and it was all caught on video.

WCBS 880's Sophia Hall On The Story

Police are searching for the suspect.

About four weeks ago, two men entered Zoo-Rama Pets in Elmont.

On the video, one man can be seen distracting the owner's son, who was minding the store, while another started looking around, apparently trying to figure out what to steal, reported WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

Eventually, he settled on a one-pound, nine-week-old Pomeranian. He pried open the cage and proceeded to stuff the dog down his pants, reported Hall.

"You can see it on the video, the puppy was trying to get out and he was shoving it back into his pants and then covered it with his shirt and walked out," said owner Harsha Perera.

He believes the suspect already sold the puppy, which was worth over $1,000. He is offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest.

"They are delicate. They are like babies. They have to be nurtured. They have to be fed about three, four times a day," he said.

If you know anything, call Zoo-Rama at 516-216-1349 or the Nassau County Police Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
