FAIR LAWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Police in one northern New Jersey town say they have arrested an alleged robber who had a busy Tuesday night.

Within three hours, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., Sergeant Brian Metzler said police responded to four burglaries that occurred throughout Fair Lawn.

As WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported, the two burglaries and two attempted burglaries happened in different neighborhoods but all had one thing in common.

"Entry was either gained or attempted through a rear door or window," Metzler said.

Metzler said it didn't take long for a detective to track down and arrest 18-year-old Jared Cooney of Sussex County.

"Cooney confessed to driving around the borough looking for homes with no lights on and no vehicles in their driveway so that he could obtain prescription medications," Metzler said.

The sergeant says Cooney only broke into the homes for the pills and didn't steal anything else.

"The kid I guess needed his fix," he said.

Police have charged Cooney with robbery, attempted robbery and criminal mischief.
