New Jersey Health Department Confirms First Case Of Mosquito-Borne Jamestown Canyon Virus This Year
NEWTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The first case this year of the mosquito-borne Jamestown Canyon Virus, or JCV, has been confirmed in New Jersey.
The Health Department says a Sussex County resident in his 60s tested positive for the virus.
JCV is transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito. There are no vaccines to prevent the virus. Treatment consists of supportive care.
Doctors say use an EPA-registered insect repellent and check yourself and your pets for ticks after spending time outdoors.
