Suspect accused of hitting N.J. police officer with car arrested in Connecticut, officials say

The suspect accused of hitting a New Jersey police officer with a car was arrested in Connecticut, officials said.

Essex County prosecutors said the incident started when two Belleville officers were conducting a vehicle stop at 7:45 p.m. Sunday at Mill Street and Union Avenue.

The driver then hit one of the officers with his car. The officer fired their weapon at the car while the suspect drove off, prosecutors said.

No one was hit by gunfire.

The injured officer and his partner were treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Both are expected to be OK, according to prosecutors.

The suspect was later spotted driving in Connecticut. He was arrested by officers in New Britain, Connecticut State Police said.

State police are working with the New Britain Police Department and Belleville police on the investigation.
